New Delhi, March 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a strong shift toward export-oriented agriculture, urging policymakers, industry leaders, and farmers to transform India’s farm sector into a globally competitive engine of growth. The call was made during a post-Budget webinar on “Agriculture and Rural Transformation.”
Addressing the virtual gathering, Modi stressed that Indian agriculture must align with changing global demand and focus on high-value crops, quality standards, and better branding to increase its presence in international markets. He said India’s diverse agro-climatic conditions provide a major advantage in producing a wide range of crops suitable for export.

The Prime Minister highlighted that scaling up high-value agriculture could make the sector globally competitive while improving farmers’ incomes. Increased export-oriented production would also create employment opportunities in rural areas through processing, storage, and value-addition industries.
Modi emphasised the need to strengthen agricultural supply chains, storage infrastructure, and logistics to help farmers access global markets more effectively. He also called for greater investment from entrepreneurs and agri-startups, particularly in agri-fintech and digital solutions that can improve productivity and market access.

The Prime Minister further underlined the importance of technology adoption in farming, noting that digital public infrastructure such as AgriStack could help integrate farmers, institutions, and innovators into a modern agricultural ecosystem.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to rural development, Modi said the Union Budget places significant emphasis on agriculture and rural transformation. He urged stakeholders to work collaboratively so that Indian farm products meet global quality standards and strengthen the country’s position as a major agricultural exporter.
The initiative is expected to boost farmer incomes, enhance rural employment, and position India as a key supplier in global food markets.
